Are Snubnose Revolvers still a thing?

Snubnose EDC

I get asked this question a lot. My response is always the same, "Yes" and that they absolutely still have their purpose in today's carry solutions. Should you own one? YES. Should you train with one? YES.

- No, you should not get your wife one because its "Small."

Why you might ask? Well there are a few reasons:

One, Size. The lightweight features of a snub nose and ability to be hidden under the lightest of clothing can never be acheived with a semi auto. There is always going to be that hard line under your shirt, that small part of the grip just poking out like a hernia. Snub noses provide some more rounded edges, and those edges look more natural. They can be carried on the waist line, pocket, or ankle.

Two, Mechanics. You have 5 or 6 shots depending on your model. They are loaded in a cylander. This gun is literally point and click. Theres no slides, no seperate actions, just put the bullets in the cylander and close it. Aim and Fire. You have to appreciate that simplicity, and especially when you put some time in with a snub nose will you see how you can breaze through it. It is always said you revert back to your lowest level of training in a high stress situation, so why not game it to help yourself?

Three, Ammo. Most snubbies are .38Spl or .357 Magnum. There are some 9mm and 45acp, but lets stick with the basics. With a 50 round box of .38Spl, you will spend a significant amount of time reloading the gun, firing, and reloading again. Those reps count, alot more then you think (see my point above about gaming it).

Conclusion: You should own a Snub nose. Put a Clip Draw on it, and forget about it. The Clip Draw will not obstuct it from getting into most holsters. Use it as your suit gun, your hot summer gun, your NPE (Non Permissive Enviroment) Gun. I promise you, you won't regret it.
